YANA Mental Health Sensitivity Seminar

Delta Epsilon Mu Alpha Alpha sponsored local organization, You Are Not Alone during their Mental Health Sensitivity Seminar. YANA discussed the ways to address concerns regarding mental illnesses in one’s self as well as in others. They offered resources nationally and locally for those who may be struggling or know others struggling with mental illnesses. Additionally, YANA hosted Aya Ajrouche, a Psychiatric PA-C who discussed addressing mental illnesses. She also provided a walkthrough of finding professional sources and the process of a person’s first appointment with their provider. Thank you YANA for allowing our chapter to participate in this seminar!

Fleece & Thank You

Tonight, the Actives and Prospective Members of the Kappa Class had the opportunity to work with local organization, Fleece & Thank You. Inspired by the brave children battling any variety of diseases each day, Fleece & Thank You sought to create a more comfortable space for these kids during their time in the hospital. Through donations and volunteers, they create fun, patterned and colorful blankets with the hopes of brightening these children’s hospital stays. However, Fleece & Thank You differs from other organizations that create blankets; they include a personalized video from the people who made the blanket for the recipient. Alpha Alpha Chapter would like to thank Fleece & Thank You for working with and guiding us during the blanket making process. We wish the best for the brave children who receive these blankets as well as a warm recovery!

Palav Walk 2019

Today, members of the Alpha Alpha chapter were given the opportunity to volunteer with Palav at their annual walk. Palav is a Detroit-based organization founded by one of Alpha Alpha’s mentors, Dr. Nithin Chouthai. The organization began its work in underdeveloped areas of India. Their goal is to provide medical equipment and aid to babies with weak lungs. As Palav continues to grow, they continue to spread to other underdeveloped areas throughout the world. Our chapter is fortunate enough to work closely with Palav and Dr. Chouthai, and we would like to thank the organization for allowing us to volunteer at their annual walk once again.

Charity Banquet

The Alpha Alpha chapter of Delta Epsilon Mu celebrated Founders’ Day with our 2018-2019 Charity Banquet! Active members and alumni gathered for great food and celebration of our successful year. We reflected on our year’s professional events including a Resume Building workshop, a Medical Student panel, and a Research panel. We welcomed this year’s new classes, Theta and Iota, and officially introduced our new Executive Board. The funds raised during the banquet will be donated to a local Detroit organization.

LQBTQ Sensitivity Training

Delta Epsilon Mu hosted a professional sensitivity training event presented by Lindsay Toman. Ms. Toman discussed the importance of overcoming healthcare barriers through education and affirmation. Training future physicians to address the health needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) population can potentially decrease health disparities faced by such individuals.
